Validation Requirements

Domain Validated SSL certificates are the most basic digital certificate option and are the easiest to validate. The process includes a single step to verify the person or organization who owns the registered domain.

To complete the validation, the domain owner must prove that they own the domain that was submitted with the order before issuance can occur.

The preferred validation method (and the easiest) is completing the verification with email-based authentication. Using this method, we will send an email to the WHOIS registrar email address asking you to verify that you purchased a DV certificate. Once you positively respond to our email, the requirement is considered satisfied and the certificate can be issued within minutes of a completed order.

As an alternative to the WHOIS registered email, we can send the authentication email to one of five pre-approved email addresses associated with the website domain. The five pre-approved addresses are:

The case for single domain certificates

Single domain SSL certificates secure both the www and non-www version of a single domain. They are available in Domain Validation (DV), Organization Validation (OV), and Extended Validation (EV) options.

When it comes to securing a website with digital certificates, single domain certificates stand out as the best option since they are more secure, easier to manage and automate, and more cost-effective when compared to other options. Wildcard certificates (secure the primary domain and unlimited subdomains) and multi-domain SSL certificates (secure multiple domains) come with inherent risks that create complex management challenges and could result in significant consequences to the business.
