Changes Coming to Comodo CA Certificate Lifetime Policies
Beginning March 1, 2018, Comodo CA will reduce the maximum lifetime for all SSL (TLS) certificates to a maximum of 825 days, or just over 27-months. This timeline is down from the current term of 39-months, meaning the maximum validity for an SSL certificate will be two years. Three-year certificates will be removed as options from our retail website, API’s and provisioning portals.
Changes in industry certificate lifetime policies mean changes to Comodo CA’s certificate lifetimes.
Beginning March 1, 2018, Comodo CA will reduce the maximum lifetime for all SSL (TLS) certificates to a maximum of 825 days, or just over 27-months. This timeline is down from the current term of 39-months, meaning the maximum validity for an SSL certificate will be two years. Three-year certificates will be removed as options from our retail website, API’s and provisioning portals.
This change follows the industry-wide policy change being implemented by the CA/Browser Forum, which is requiring this certificate lifetime reduction policy for all Certification Authorities.
What do these changes mean to you?
- You may still purchase one- and two-year certificates.
- Comodo CA will no longer sell certificates for terms longer than 27-months beginning March 1, 2018.
- After March 1, any renewals or reissues of certificates that were originally for terms longer than 27-months will have their term truncated to the maximum permissible duration of 27-months. When the 27-months expires, customers will receive a free replacement certificate, which is valid for the remainder of the certificate duration.
- There is no action required for 3-year certificates issued prior to March 1, 2018. These certificates are unaffected and will remain valid for their full term. However, should customers need to replace one of these certificates after March 1, the new regulations will apply.
