Why quantum computing changes everything

The urgency of post-quantum algorithms

Recognizing the critical threat posed by quantum computing, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has made significant progress by releasing three post-quantum cryptographic standards, set for standardization in 2024, to ensure the correct implementation of these algorithms:

A fourth finalist, FN-DSA, remains under review and has not yet been released. NIST has set firm timelines to transition the world away from widely used cryptographic algorithms, including RSA-2048 and ECC-256. According to recently released guidance, these algorithms will be deprecated by 2030 and completely disallowed after 2035.
