ROSELAND, N.J., May 31, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comodo CA, a worldwide leader in digital identity solutions, today announced its recognition as the leader among the world’s top 10 Certificate Authorities. The acknowledgement comes from the 2017 TLS Telemetry Report, which used the Alexa “Top 1 Million” as a primary source of hostnames and calculated the number of digital certificates from each certificate issuer.
Alexa, a broadly cited list, is maintained by a division of Amazon and relies on statistics from the Alexa browser plugin to list the top hostnames. Comodo CA issued the industry-leading number of certificates – 160,377 – and secured the top spot by nearly 68,000 certificates. The full breakdown of the top 10 Certificate Authorities can be found here.
“Comodo CA has an established mission to maintain the highest levels of trust amongst our customers,” said Bill Holtz, CEO, Comodo CA. “We are proud to be the world’s largest certificate authority and maintain our leadership position in the CA market.”
The 2017 TLS Telemetry Report also found that self-signed certificates - those not signed by a trusted Certificate Authority - dropped from 15.2 percent in the first quarter of 2017 to 11.6 percent in Q1 of 2018. Although this is due partly to the rise of free certificate services, Comodo CA works tirelessly to build trust in the industry and believes the decline in self-signed certificates is a result of Comodo’s efforts to offer a superior product with industry-leading support.
